چکیده

Background Rapid etiological diagnosis has a very important role in the clinical management of respiratory viral infections. Using a multianalyte point-of-care detection system, based on a fully automated immunoassay method, we can detect 8 respiratory viruses (influenza A and B viruses, parainfluenza 1, 2 and 3 viruses, respiratory syncytial virus, human metapneumovirus and adenovirus) and the presence of Streptococcus pneumoniae from a single nasopharyngeal swab or aspirate. Objectives: To evaluate the incidence of respiratory viral infections in the pediatric department of the National Institute for Infectious Diseases “Prof. Dr. Matei Balş"during 1 November 2013 – 1 June 2014.

Detection of Group A Streptococcus from Pharyngeal Swab Samples by Bacterial Culture Is Challenged by a Novel mariPOC Point-of-Care Test.

mariPOC is a novel point-of-care test system for rapid detection of respiratory tract infections. We compared the performance of the mariPOC test to that of bacterial culture for detecting group A streptococcus (GAS) in 219 pharyngitis patients (ages 1-64 years) and 109 healthy asymptomatic controls (ages 19-69 years). In addition, 42 patient samples were analyzed by quantitative PCR (qPCR). Of...

Persistent bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) infection in cattle herds

Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is a significant pathogen associated with gastrointestinal, respiratory, and reproductive diseases of cattle worldwide. It causes continuous economic losses to the cattle industry primarily due to decreased reproductive performance. The ability of virus to cross the placenta during early pregnancy can result in the birth of persistently infected (PI) calves. P...

Molecular Epidemiology of Adenoviruses among Respiratory Infected Patients

Abstract Background and Objective: Respiratory tract infections (RTI) are the most common infectious disorders, worldwide. About 80%-90% of RTI are caused by four viruses such as Adenoviruses, 51 serotypes have been introduced so far. The aim of this survey was to evaluate the frequency of Adenovirus in respiratory infected patients by PCR method in Golestan province, Iran. Material and Me...

Utilization of the respiratory virus multiplex reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction test for adult patients at a Korean tertiary care center

BACKGROUND/AIMS Respiratory viruses (RVs) are considered to be important respiratory pathogens in adult patients, and the multiplex reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test is used frequently in adult patients with respiratory infections. However, clinical data regarding utilization of the multiplex RT-PCR test for RVs are lacking. METHODS We investigated the utilization ...

Point Prevalence of Hepatitis B Virus Infection among Adolescents in Visakhapatnam, India

Introduction: Occurrence of detectable amounts of viral antigen or viral particles in the blood of infected patients with Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a significant characteristic of HBV infection. Detection of HBV antigen or its DNA among individuals of a community is a crucial factor to know the burden of HBV infection. Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) is a suitable marker of HBV infection b...
